Kamala Harris has moved quickly to squash any challenges to her control of the Democratic Party or to her place as the party’s candidate for president in November. According to Gregory Korte and Jordan Fabian, she has already accumulated enough pledged delegates to take the nomination. They write for Bloomberg:
Kamala Harris has more than enough pledged delegates to clinch the Democratic presidential nomination, following an extraordinary two-day blitz that saw the vice president consolidate her party’s backing to challenge Donald Trump in November.
Harris sealed her status as the presumptive nominee Monday night after crossing the magic number of 1,976 pledged delegates, according to an unofficial Associated Press tally. While delegates who indicated their support are not required to back her nomination, the achievement — and lack of credible opposition — underscores the vice president’s hold on the Democratic ticket.
“Tonight, I am proud to have secured the broad support needed to become our party’s nominee, and as a daughter of California, I am proud that my home state’s delegation helped put our campaign over the top,” she said in a statement released by her campaign. “I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon.”
