As Joe Biden’s approval ratings have steadily gotten worse for a year, the common refrain from his supporters has been “At least they’re not as bad as Trump’s.” Now, that is no longer true.
The Real Clear Politics average of net approval ratings for Joe Biden on February 9, 2022, is at negative 14.6 points.
Trump’s RCP average net disapproval on February 9, 2018, was negative 12 points.
Biden’s current ratings are 2.6 points worse than Trump’s were at this stage in his presidency.
Biden’s approval among Americans has dropped precipitously despite the huge tailwind of positive news he was given in his first days in office by a supportive media.
An April 2021 Pew Research study found that during the first sixty days in office, Trump was given the most negative news assessment, at 62% negative. Trump’s numbers were much worse than Clinton’s (28%), Bush’s (28%), or Obama’s (20%).
During Biden’s first 60 days, the percentage of news stories with a negative assessment was the lowest of all five most recent occupants of the White House, at only 19%.
Despite the fawning early news coverage, Biden’s poor performance in the Oval Office has turned many Americans against him. Now even his diehard supporters must admit, he’s liked even less than Trump.
