This week’s “Ass of the Week” is Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo. For months Raimondo has lectured Rhode Islanders about wearing face masks and avoiding large gatherings. She has wagged her finger at residents on TV, tut-tutting those who dared walk on the beach or park at a state park for a hike.
Then, on June 5, Raimondo spoke to a Black Lives Matter protest at the Rhode Island State House. Raimondo was not wearing a mask, she was in cramped quarters with over a thousand people, and to top it off, she was breaking Providence’s legally imposed curfew by attending after 9:00pm.
The unmasked appearance by Governor Raimondo has outraged Rhode Island’s small business owners and event vendors, whose lives have been crushed under the governor’s executive orders. That’s why Gina Raimondo is our Ass of the Week.
