Birth of the Blue — Now on 45 RPM!

Birth of the Blue captures four tracks recorded by the Miles Davis sextet in May 1958, a year before Kind of Blue. Featuring Miles Davis, Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb, the session showcases the group’s evolving sound, blending lyrical ballads with the energetic “Love for Sale.” Often viewed as a precursor to Kind of Blue, the recordings reveal the musical ideas and chemistry that would soon produce one of jazz’s greatest albums.

Mastered by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab from a new 30 IPS quarter-inch stereo master tape, transferred from the original three-track session tapes. This audiophile 2LP edition is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings and is available in standard black vinyl and a limited edition of 1,500 blue vinyl copies.

Also available on Hybrid Stereo SACD and 33⅓ RPM vinyl.
