When the song “Down the Road” (the Kenny Chesney version featuring Mac McAnally, the song’s writer) came on last night while Your Survival Guy was cleaning the kitchen after dinner, it brought me to so many places. It made me think about how fast my kids have grown up. It also made me think about an email I wrote that morning.
A week or so ago, I received an email from a client referring his brother to me. He said his brother liked Rush but was a bigger Jimmy Buffett fan. I knew right away we’d get along just fine.
When I introduced myself, we talked about the Mac McAnnally show in Key West after Jimmy passed away and how emotional the night was in such a small, intimate setting. Ironically, Mac will be performing tonight and tomorrow night down the road from Newport, at Sunset Cove in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
When it comes to your retirement life and finding your sunset cove, you want to envision a life you deserve. One you worked your entire life to achieve. One your advisor will take with the seriousness it requires. Unfortunately, when you get to a certain pre-retirement/retirement age, financial salesmen smell blood in the water and put on the full court press. And hopefully they don’t try to eat you alive with hardcore sales tactics often bordering on harassment.
A long time ago, my father-in-law, Dick Young, said, “Survival Guy, your clients will join you when they’re ready.” And so, when I received an email from my new friend telling me he and his wife just aren’t ready to make a move yet, I thanked him for letting me know and told him I look forward to speaking with him “Down the Road.”
Action Line: When you’re ready, email me at ejsmith@yoursurvivalguy.com.
