ALERT: Missouri Voters Crush Obamacare!!!!
Yesterday, Missouri voters overwhelmingly supported a resolution to reject the Obamacare individual mandate to buy health insurance. This is the first concrete action taken in the nation to stop Obamacare in its tracks!
Bonfire of the Neocons – Jed Babbin, The American Spectator
In two years Republicans will have to choose what kind of candidate they are going to run against Barack Obama. The choice will surely boil down to hundreds of minutiae that differentiate primary opponents, but a big question will be, is he/she a neocon or not? The neocons that hijacked the Bush administration would love nothing more than to run another nation-building administration in the White House. Without question America’s attempts at nation building in the Middle East have not even come close to being labeled “success.” Conservatives should beware of any candidate who speaks favorably of the nonmilitary efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. America’s fighting men and women have performed very well in the field, killing and capturing thousands of enemy fighters. But the politics of both Afghanistan and Iraq are catastrophic failures. Both governmental institutions are fraught with corruption and there is little consensus about the direction each country should take. George Bush ran on a noninterventionist foreign policy in his first term and Americans voted for him (admittedly not as many as voted for Al Gore, but that’s another topic altogether). Americans need to embrace again the idea of noninterventionism and the idea of a massive pullback of American military might from around the world to protect America’s borders, not those of other countries. – Timothy Jones
Senate Republicans: Kagan Not Fit for Court – Audrey Hudson, Human Events
Republicans are absolutely right when they say that Kagan does not meet the high standards of the Supreme Court. Her life as a political activist is evidence enough that she will be bias in every decision she makes. A hysterical Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who has abandoned every conservative principle she ever claimed to have had since being appointed senator, made the ridiculous claim that Elena Kagan “is eminently qualified to serve as a Supreme Court justice.” I doubt Ms. Gillibrand believes that any more than you or I. After leaving NY’s 20th district to enter the Senate, Ms. Gillibrand threw her pro-Second Amendment constituents in NY-20 under the bus and has joined the liberal Chuck Schumer in nearly every vote. Gillibrand has no conscience, why should anyone trust her to be the judge of Elena Kagan’s? – Timothy Jones
ObamaCare and the Constitution—An Update – Betsy McCaughey, The Wall Street Journal
Not only is the mandate for Americans to use their own money to buy insurance unconstitutional, the entirety of Obamacare is too. Where in the constitution, specifically, is Congress granted the right to create massive healthcare entitlements? The commerce clause? Only a tortured reading would lead anyone to that conclusion. Perhaps the general welfare clause? Obamacare will hurt the “general” welfare in its attempt to help a small minority of folk who haven’t actually purchased insurance on their own. Any argument that the general welfare is being preserved by Obamacare is preposterous. – Dick Young
The Blue State Blues – Review & Outlook, The Wall Street Journal
It would appear that Democrats, led by Jerrold Nadler want to tax red state Americans more than blue state Americans. Using cost of living disparities as a baseline, Nadler and his Democratic friends want to tax blue state Americans less because their costs of living are so high. Is it really any wonder that the costs of living are so high when unions have been given the run of these states? This idea is absolutely crazy and unconstitutional under the apportionment clause. There aren’t many things that might lead to another civil war in America, but charging red state citizens more in taxes than their blue state brethren? This has Mason-Dixon written all over it. – Dick Young
Liberal Piety and the Memory of 9/11 – Dorothy Rabinowitz, The Wall Street Journal
When are liberals in the press and in government going to recognize that America is under attack by radical Islamist extremists? There have been numerous terrorist attacks against America since 9/11. How many have been from disgruntled former veterans of the U.S. military? As far as I am aware, none. How many have been from Christian radicals? The Hutaree in Michigan were planning an attack against law enforcement, so as far as I know, one. How many have been from radical Islamist extremists on a jihad against the U.S.? Many. The Christmas day bomber, the Shoe bomber, the Lackawanna New York terror cell, the Brooklyn duo that wanted to blow up JFK airport, Faisal Shazad, the Fort Hood shooter, and numerous others. Without understanding, or even acknowledging the motives of America’s enemies, we will be in greater danger. – Deborah Young
Extend All the Bush Tax Cuts – Rep. Paul Ryan, Human Events
Some common sense from Congressman Paul Ryan on why the Bush tax cuts must be extended. – Dick Young
Attack of the Adults – Rich Lowry, National Review
Strong conservative government can turn around even the worst fiscal disasters. Look no further than Chris Christie in New Jersey. Another state-level fiscal success story is Mitch Daniels’ handling of Indiana. America needs leaders like Daniels and Christie to reign in the debt and deficits that plague the nation. Check out this video for some Chris Christie truth about government. – Dick Young
