You may know Mark Knopfler, the “Sultan of Swing,” from his years fronting the rock band Dire Straits. Well he’s still pickin’ that guitar. He released another solo album this year, Tracker. Talk about being great at one thing.
You don’t have to be great at just one thing to create wealth, but it definitely helps.
I was speaking with a prospective client last week who is great at one thing. But he didn’t start out that way. He said he remembers dumping change on the dining room table to come up with enough money for a gallon of milk when he and his wife were raising their young family. Now he’s sitting on land worth a fortune.
I asked him why he wants to become a client of Richard C. Young & Co., Ltd. He said, “Because I’ve been reading him for twenty-years.” That’s a long-time.
My prospective client also said he doesn’t have the time—scratch that—he said he has the time but doesn’t have the interest to study the markets like we do. He doesn’t have a passion for it.
An important part about being great at something is knowing it’s what you want to do with your time. It’s your craft. Be great at one thing and the wealth will come.
