In their never-ending eagerness to do the right thing, Americans were duped into following all sorts of authoritarian Covid protocols that tested the limits of both their common sense and patience. Now that some institutions and municipalities appear to be ramping back up Covid restrictions, it’s a safe bet that Americans, in the words of The Who’s Pete Townshend, “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”
