From Mollie Hemingway, The Federalist’s editor-in-chief:
“GOP’s flirtation back to Graham/Romney/Bush/Cheney foreign policy threatens their chance at retaking Congress in Nov. Unless renounced, politically stupid Republicans are going to start to make Biden and Democrats look good.
Republicans who are not stupid need to start speaking up immediately. Many in corporate media and other establishment folks are escalating things dangerously. We need statesmen.”
Harsh Sanctions Against Russia?
With the brutal invasion of Ukraine, Russia should be up against harsh sanctions. What will the Biden administration do? Faced with a diminished U.S. oil production, will the White House reward one thuggish regime (Venezuela’s Madero) as it punishes another (Russia’s Putin)?
Jonathan Karl of ABC News, questioning the effectiveness of the Biden Administration’s sanctions against Russia, as reported by Fox News:
The question of banning the import of oil and gas from Russia. It is not insignificant. We actually take in more petroleum from Russia then we do from Saudi Arabia. It’s extraordinary … for all the sanctions that have been imposed, and they have been unprecedented on Russia, to sanction everything but the thing that drives our economy.”
Oil – Front and Center
The U.S. is in “very active discussion” with allies to ban the import of Russian oil. That oil is always front and center in war discussions is part of a larger problem.
From BRIGHT’s Kelsey Bolar:
The Biden administration’s refusal to harness our own natural resources, while simultaneously increasing our reliance on these same resources from adversarial nations, is a hypocrisy that’s too dangerous to ignore.
Energy independence is not just a ‘climate issue.’ First and foremost, it’s a national security issue, and one that’s essential to preventing catastrophes like we see unfolding before us today.”
