Elon Musk – Why He’s an Existential Threat to the Progressive Left

November 7, 2022 By Debbie Young

How the Left Is Trying to Stop Conservative Views …

Two things Musk is not doing, contrary to traditional actions from many new leaders:

  1. Using the first 90 days to meet with employees.
  2. Listening to concerns and assessing how to improve a company’s products before embarking on strategy shifts.

Elon Musk’s taking over Twitter is causing all sorts of heartburn amongst the Left.  Twit’s guardians require strict conformity in “dispensing their twisted gospel of diversity if they are to maintain their power and perquisites,” explains Victor Davis Hanson in American Greatness:

Open the door just a little, let just a little sunlight in, and pow! The magic spell that made it seem OK to say that men are women, that “climate change” is a threat to humanity, that COVID is a peril on the same plane as the Black Death, or that BLM and Antifa were justified in burning down our cities—suddenly that spell is broken, and so is the hold over the narrative that these new guardians of conformity had enforced.

So why are Democrats and their media cohort worried that Musk would take a “wrecking ball to Twitter”? The WSJ’s Allysia Finley adds, Musk’s taking Twitter over is no more likely to destroy Twitter than Republican’s control of Congress will destroy democracy?” (What could only be looked upon as a “dark” speech, President Biden this past week accused American democracy as being under attack.)

Democrats are panicking because both will impose much-needed checks on progressive rule.

Musk – an Insult to Progressive Consensus

Bear in mind, Victor Davis Hanson warns readers, the establishment will not sit idly by as Elon Musk challenges their narrative. It’s no accident that the coercive busybodies of the state are making minatory noises about “investigating” Musk.  Tesla, according to “Popular Science,” is under federal investigation over autopilot claims.

Continue the Beatings until Morale Improves.

As Glenn Reynolds put it at Instapundit, “The Bureaucracy Mobilizes Against a Threat.”

Were the midterms not just around the corner, Mr. Hanson confesses, he might be “worried“ about the “coalescing threat against Elon Musk.”

But come November 9, the clock will be ticking against that sclerotic, freedom-hating consensus. The bird is freed, and we will be too. Fiat Musk!

The Democrats’ objections are not principled, Ms. Finley points out:

They oppose Mr. Musk’s takeover for the simple reason that they want to silence conservative voices and contrarian views on subjects such as climate and Covid.

Democrats are rooting for Mr. Musk to fail. But unfortunately for them, he doesn’t appear to suffer from the self-destructive tendencies of Donald Trump.
