Continuing on his theme of America’s Descent Into Madness, Victor Davis Hanson trashes, along with immigration, Crime as another American absurdity.
In what seems like a mini-industry of Internet videos showing young people, a disproportionate of whom are African American males, stealing luxury goods from Neiman-Marcus in San Fran, or swiping clean a shelf at Walgreens, or attacking Asian Americans.
With Americans realizing that if they are robbed or assaulted, “the miscreant will never be held to account,” asserts VDH.
Why?
- The police are viewing arrests of criminals as a lose-lose situation.
- Progressive big city DAs look at the law as a critical legal theory construct not deserving of enforcement.
- Criminals know, after arrest, they will be released within hours.
So a subculture has developed among Americans, of passing information about where in the country it is safe, where it is not, and where one can go, where one cannot. This is clearly not America, but something bizarre out of Sao Paulo, Durban, or Caracas.
