… Using a Round-the-Clock Security Detail
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has assured America that he feels “perfectly safe” in Washington, DC, dismissing, Trump’s stated objectives for sending in the National Guard to America’s capital. The Minority leader fails to mention the number involved in his round-the-clock armed security detail.

Schumer’s Breezy Assessment of Life in DC
Senior political writer Jim Geraghty reports in NRO of being happy that Schumer and other critics feel safe walking around Washington. But, as he notes, some members of Congress or their staffers haven’t been so lucky:
- In February 2023, Representative Angie Craig (D., Minn.), was assaulted in her apartment elevator; the perpetrator’s attorney “said his client faced a number of issues at the time of the assault, including drug abuse and homelessness, and that he’s been diagnosed schizophrenia and mental disabilities.”
- In October 2023, Representative Henry Cuellar (D., Texas) was thankfully unhurt when masked carjackers held him at gunpoint “and made off with his white 2019 Toyota C-HR LE at K Street and New Jersey Avenue SE in Navy Yard.”
- In May 2024, a staffer for Representative Sara Jacobs (D., Calif.) was carjacked at gunpoint in Navy Yard by two juveniles.
- In June 2024, Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, a congressional intern for Representative Ron Estes (R., Kan.), was fatally shot in a drive-by incident in the Shaw neighborhood of Northwest Washington, near the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
Critics righteously tell voters the problem doesn’t exist. Unless your name or someone you know well happens to be on the above list, you might even believe them.
