New York City’s crime rates are spiking, with murders up 23% this year, after falling for years. By June 28, 2020 there had been over 500 shootings in New York City for the year.
By July, burglaries of mom and pop stores in NYC were up 118%, and car thefts were up 50% compared to the year before.
NYPD brass blame the surge on “Rikers compassionate release and shut down of the court system for releasing violent felons onto the streets.”
But Mayor Bill de Blasio said last week that “people said that if we reduced incarceration and ended the era of mass incarceration we would be endangered. It was the other way around my friends. We now have fewer people in our jails than any time since World War II, and we are safer and better for it.”
The statistics say otherwise. That’s why Mayor Bill de Blasio is the Ass of the Week.
