Preventing Eye Puffiness With Cucumbers

Do you know why slices of cold cucumbers placed on eyes help reduce puffiness? Cucumbers contain ascorbic acid and caffeic acid, two natural compounds that also help prevent water retention. I often keep a jug of water in the refrigerator and load it with slices of lemon, cucumber, basil, and mint. Cukes are heat sensitive, so keep them refrigerated. If you are not buying organic cukes, make sure you peel them to remove pesticides and any waxy residue.
