Turning 90 is a happy achievement to boast about, but certainly not a reason to slack off. And Queen Elizabeth II is no slacker. Today on her birthday, she, along with Prince Phillip, who turns 95 in June, will make public appearances in Windsor typical of the duties the Queen has recorded in her diary for more than six decades.
Queen Elizabeth has another happy achievement—the 40th monarch of the United Kingdom since 1066 has passed her great-great grandmother Queen Victoria for longest reign in British history, almost 64 years.
The Queen is devoted to duty, says CNN royal commentator Victoria Arbiter. Ms. Arbiter grew up around royals because her father is a former press secretary to the Queen.
“She’s doing engagements in Windsor on her birthday,” Arbiter says, which shows what kind of model the Queen is for her royal heirs. “She has provided the single greatest blueprint of any other monarch. She is a study of how it’s done, in every capacity — she is a study in how to be queen.”
God bless the Queen.
