CDC Failures Made Pandemic Worse

The pandemic was a test of America’s public health bureaucracy, which the CDC failed, writes Peter Sunderman.

In a piece at Reason, Mr. Sunderman, a features editor, explains the myriad ways the Centers for Disease Control actively hindered the United States’ response to COVID-19:

  • It failed to develop functional tests in the pandemic’s early days
  • It stonewalled private entities that sought to help

Writes Mr. Sunderman:

“At nearly every stage of the pandemic, the CDC got things wrong and got in the way. Its failures almost certainly made America’s pandemic worse.”

Mr. Sunderman writes regularly on health care, the federal budget, tech policy, and pop culture.
