The United States Coast Guard has seized a major shipment of cocaine, totaling 3,700 pounds, off the coast of Miami, FL. The Keys News reports:

The Coast Guard (USCG) says the coke is worth an estimate $28 million and that the narcotics seizure is the biggest by the U.S. government from a smaller boat in 30 years.

The drugs were seized Dec. 2 from a boat two miles east of the Government Cut shipping channel off the Florida coast

“Multiple marine units” from the USCG’s Miami Beach Station along with the U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security converged on the alleged drug smuggling boat, according to the Coast Guard.

A drug-detecting police dog was dispatched to the boat, where federal agents said they discovered more than 1,000 packages of cocaine.

Three individuals were detained as part of the maritime raid, according to USCG.

The Coast Guard announced on its Southeast regional X.com feed that this was the cocaine seizure by a USCG boat station since 1995.
