In Sunday’s NRA “story of the week” email, America’s leading gun rights organization told its members that the time for political courage is now. The fight over Brett Kavanaugh was never about what he had or hadn’t done, but what would happen when another constitutional originalist was put on the bench of the highest court in the nation. NRA writes:
The referendum on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court was never about Brett Kavanaugh—about what Brett Kavanaugh did or didn’t do. It was never about whether or not he was guilty of the crimes he was accused of—Sen. Cory Booker said so himself. It was always about damming the shifting political tide and halting the return to Constitutional Originalism. Democrats knew this. They feared for Roe v. Wade, they feared the Second Amendment, they feared the First Amendment freedoms.
So they declared war.
Democrat-inspired violence has swept over the nation. In response to the lies and slander spread by the mainstream news media and leftists alike, Democrat supporters and far-left radicals responded to Cory Booker’s calls to get up in the faces of lawmakers and Maxine Waters’ calls for public harassment.
Ted Cruz’s campaign office in Houston received a mysterious package full of a mysterious powder. Ted Cruz himself was chased out of a D.C. restaurant. GOP Congressman Andy Harris was assaulted by protestors in his D.C. office. Left-wing radicals called on their minions to confront Republicans in their homes. GOP politicians and conservative voices are being censored.
We can choose to respond to the Democrats’ declaration of war like Lindsey Graham did, or we can choose to cower and quit. We can choose to recognize the Democrats’ plans for what they are and stand firm for what we believe in—for the rule of law, the Constitution, the Second Amendment—or we can stay home on election day.
We can choose to make a stand for what’s civilized and what’s decent like Sen. Rand Paul’s wife, Kelley, did, or we can send busloads of radicals to Capitol Hill and riot in the streets.
Times like these call for political courage. They call for brave Americans to rise up, not to lash out in violence or fight back with fascistic tactics, but to remain true to the Founders’ vision of America.
Leave the craziness to the left, and choose to follow Dan Bongino’s rallying cry for unity: “This is no time for factions. … It is time to link shields. It is time for unity.”
It is time for political courage.
