Decades of riding Harleys along America’s back roads has taken Debbie and me to some of the best (and worst) places you can find in this country. Small town Main Streets, with flags hung on front porches where hard working citizens sit on rocking chairs enjoying their freedom are a staple of the American Dream. Getting away from the rat race of city life is therapeutic for Americans, because in its small towns and country roads, they can still find some of the wide open spaces and freedom that attracted so many of this country’s settlers.
Architectural Digest has attempted an impossible feat, by narrowing down America’s small towns into the 25 best. Stefanie Waldek and Elizabeth Stamp describe the towns, writing:
While there’s nothing quite like the energy of the big city, the hectic pace isn’t for everyone, and urbanites themselves often need a respite. Luckily, the U.S. is home to thousands of perfectly charming small towns that are great places for weekend escapes—or to settle down in. We’ve swept the country to find some of the best, whether you’re looking for a ski lover’s paradise, a historic spot that’s still near a major metropolis, or a remote waterfront retreat. Here are 21 of our favorite small towns in America.
See if your town made the list here.
But America’s small towns are facing a crisis. Without help, they may not make it long. Read more about what President Trump is doing to try to save them here:
