Inez Stepman at BRIGHT (The Federalist) introduces readers to Tony Kinnett, a teacher and science curriculum coordinator in Indianapolis Public Schools. Tony, besides being Stepman’s friend, is one of those courageous people standing up within a hostile system by giving parents a clear look into what is and isn’t taught in public schools in America. she writes.
Ms. Stepman writes, “Honestly, I can’t put it any better than Tony did himself when I asked him about why he decided to speak out about critical race theory and other radical content, and make the viral video that landed him on Tucker Carlson”:
“I want to encourage more teachers to speak out… it’s really the responsibility of the people who want a comfortable life to provide [the foundation] for a comfortable life. You can’t make the United States a better place by going and trying to live the same life that your parents had…
A lot of my family did not want me to do this at all… they wanted me to stay in Knightstown, Indiana, teach for 30 years, and keep my head in the sand, and then retire…
You can’t do that.
In this culture, anywhere, I don’t care what job you have, you are currently being told by large groups of people that you need to join with them or you need to have certain rights revoked, and freedoms and privileges revoked… You have to join in. You can no longer afford to be the person who doesn’t care about politics.”
As an admin for the largest school district in Indiana, here’s what we mean when we tell you that we aren’t “teaching” Critical Race Theory: pic.twitter.com/f6RLghcw2R
