As the bubble wrap unravels, the tragedy striking former President Joe Biden becomes increasingly evident. Are Democrats finally realizing the mistake they made in covering President Biden’s senescence?
Selective Truths vs Alternative Facts
Joe Biden’s inner circle – the palace guard – created an alternative universe that they were desperate to pass off to the public. The “palace guard,” as Chuck Schumer dubbed them, consisted of (after Jill) Mike Donilon, Steve Ricchetti, Anita Dunn, Anthony Bernal, Ron Klain, and Annie Tomasini.
As Joe Biden became increasingly muddled, the guards curtailed Biden’s hours and responsibilities and handed more power to themselves. Biden’s alarming deterioration was a political vulnerability, something to be concealed. “It was not to be treated as a matter of concern to all Americans, something Americans had a right to know.”
The tragedy of Joe Biden didn’t stop with him.
Hunter, Joe Biden’s only “living son,” became enmeshed in the legal system.
Thanks to COVID, Joe was able to avoid the limelight. As Americans sheltered at home, Biden hid away in Rehoboth, Delaware.
President Joe Biden, despite his feeble, incoherent state at age 81, bought into the delusions that he could be re-elected.
Joe Biden was fuming at nearly everyone except Jill, Hunter and his ring of retirement home aides, who helped fuel his delusions that he could be re-elected.

A Painful Reckoning

- Extreme efforts redesigned the presidency to adapt to his fragile state.
- Special counsel Robert Hur was trashed for telling the truth.
- Cognitive testing could have established a diagnosis.
The nadir, of course, was Biden’s cascade of caesurae at the debate, continues Ms. Dowd.
It was not, as his advisers insisted, merely a bad night. It was a stunning display of a steep mental decline.

By refusing to admit what voters could so clearly see, Democrats denied their party an open primary. Once Mr. Biden imploded, they handed Kamala Harris the nomination without debate.
Had Mr. Biden bowed out in 2023, Republicans might also have been more open to nominees other than Mr. Trump.
Attempting to disqualify Donald Trump, Democrats tried Lawfare, which only solidified Trump’s hold on MAGA voters.
Democrats and the press are now appalled by Mr. Trump’s second term. They would do better to think upon, and seek contrition for, their own role in making it possible.
