Nordstrom is defying “death of department stores” by opening a sleek behemoth in Midtown Manhattan, reports Steve Cuozzo in the New York Post.
On Thursday, the largest free-standing store to open in Manhattan since Dwight Eisenhower was president makes its debut. The new Nordstrom at 225 W. 57th St., between Seventh Avenue and Broadway, is a seven-level, 320,000-square-foot women’s-emporium behemoth. It’s a defiant symbol against Amazon and other e-tailers that have laid waste to shops and clerks.
