President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and First Lady Melania Trump joined Governor Rick Scott on the ground in Naples, Florida yesterday, handing out food to victims of Hurricane Irma.
The Naples Daily News reported on the visit:
President Donald Trump handed out half-sandwiches and bananas with the first lady, vice president and Gov. Rick Scott in Naples Estates on Thursday afternoon during a brief stop in Southwest Florida in the wake of Hurricane Irma.
Trump met with a handful of residents who sat waiting on front lawns of the mobile home community that is overrun with punched-out windows, collapsed porches and wrecked carports.
The neighborhood was still without water and power. A broken water line that had been spouting a fountain of water 12 feet high on Monday morning had been patched. Trees blocking the entrance to Naples Estates had been removed. The floodwaters had receded. Much of the debris from roofs, walls and trailers was piled into a 20-foot mound of twisted metal near the community center.
“That’s a lot of plywood, a lot of work,” Trump told residents Cyndy Coray and Osvaldo Extramil, who were patching up a home near the center of the neighborhood. “You’re doing a good job.
“We’re doing a good job, and you’re doing a good job,” Extramil said. “Thank you for caring.”
