MSNBC reports that in Houston, a jewelry store owner fought and killed three would-be robbers that had invaded his store and tied up his wife and were beginning to tie him up too. He grabbed a pistol he was carrying and wasted the first punk, then pulled out a shotgun and used the heavy artillery to mow down the other two. Good riddance to these thieves in action.
Debbie and I have our concealed carry weapons permits, and you should too. Until police arrive, the only protection you have from those who would do you harm is your own wit and firepower.
A blogger named Apollo at a site called Federalist Paupers has written that America’s hunters make up the world’s largest army. A massive number of Americans exercise their second amendment rights by owning a gun, whether it is for hunting, protection, or target shooting. This group is America’s second best defense against invasion, and the best against tyranny. For skeptics of the impact of guerilla warfare carried out by normal citizens, I would refer you to the current situation in Afghanistan, where farmers and boys are doing all too well against the best equipped and trained militaries (NATO) in the world.
With all of the above in mind, I’d like to inform you that your Supreme Court justice, Stephen Breyer has suggested on Fox News this week that the second amendment is in need of an update, and that guns should not go “unregulated.” In perhaps one of the most nonsensical arguments against the second amendment ever, Breyer argues that the second amendment means something other than what it actually says. He states that because James Madison put it in the constitution to entice the states to ratify the document, that it must for some reason have less meaning than Americans give it. That argument could be used for every article, clause and amendment in the constitution, but it wouldn’t be correct for any of them. A five year old can correctly interpret the second amendment; only someone with an ulterior motive would so easily misinterpret the meaning of the constitution.
Americans have a choice in 2012. They can elect a president who will nominate justices like Stephen Breyer to the Supreme Court, or justices that protect Americans’ rights as laid out in the Bill of Rights. Hint: Barack Obama is the former.
