Writing in the American Conservative, Daniel Larison tells readers:
Rejecting the deal (Iran nuclear deal) will be a liability for the GOP, and its impact will probably be most noticeable in the presidential election. The party’s general hostility to a major diplomatic success will make foreign policy issues more of a problem for the eventual Republican nominee.”
Most surveys show majority support for the agreement, and more Americans want Congress to allow the deal to proceed than want them to block it.
As Larison correctly writes, “The GOP is on the wrong side of public opinion on the deal.”
As I have been writing, the GOP has largely been co-opted by the neocon War Dogs. History is clear, since WWII the War Dogs have been wrong on most every serious foreign policy issue facing the U.S. Today, virtually every Republican running for president, along with Mrs. Clinton, line up in the War Dogs’ kennel. The little rub here is, by my count, a clear majority of the voters are against an interventionist foreign policy. Which means the majority of Americans do not, as things stand today, have a horse in the 2016 presidential race. I know I’m in just such an unpleasant position. How about you?
