Senator Jim DeMint came out strong this weekend, telling the GOP that if new House members didn’t do what they promised Americans they would do, then the Republican Party is dead. Does that mean DeMint is ready to sidestep the GOP and create a new party? It is possible he would have enough support to create a viable third party, given that he has played kingmaker in many of the senatorial primary races throughout the year.
There are many in GOP that view it as more important to win seats than to have principles. Last week, and during the weekend, many of these pundits came out hard against Delaware Republicans Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell. Often they lead with the William Buckley line that you should vote for the most conservative candidate that can win. This idea has recently been smashed by Rush Limbaugh who told listeners that they should vote for the most conservative candidate in the primary.
I have to agree with Rush here. How will Americans ever see the real, freedom enriching, alternative to liberalism if the GOP keeps nominating lefties? When was the last time anyone in the North East had a true-blue constitutional conservative to vote for? How about in California? Probably the days of Ronald Reagan. Conservatives need to show people in blue states that freedom and liberty will work there just as well as it will work in Texas, or Oklahoma, or Montana.
America should lead the world in economic and political freedom. The Cato Institute’s recent Economic Freedom of the World publication says that the world is less free than it was last year. The U.S. ranks as the sixth freest country, that’s a travesty. The U.S. should be the freest economy on the planet, not tailing along with the also-rans. The U.S. does even worse in the Heritage Foundation’s Index of Economic Freedom, scoring eighth. Heritage scores the U.S. as a “mostly free” nation regarding economics.

It’s pathetic to see an inept government create so much uncertainty, whether through tax increases next year, or through life under Obamacare. How can you plan beyond tomorrow? Your time is valuable. That’s why getting back to the simplicity of the constitution and putting you, the people, back in control is the only good idea worth considering in November.
Commentary by Timothy Jones on GOP Aims to Erode White House Agenda by Neil King Jr. and Janet Adamy, The Wall Street Journal
With the sole power to create new taxes vested in the House, if the GOP gains control it will not likely create any new taxes. But tamping down new spending is the other side of the coin. The GOP has a plan to strangle the president’s spending plans to reign in the deficit. I hope they do a better job than they did during the Bush administration.
