According to a Washington Post report, the president has said he is working on gun control “under the radar.” This is another example of how the Obama administration is bypassing congressional authority to legislate (or go to war, in the case of Libya). The same presidential administration that is targeting American’s rights to self-defense has been ignoring the free flow of guns that are sold to the Mexican army and police and then resold by corrupt Mexican soldiers or policemen to violent drug cartels. The Obama administration’s Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms has even allowed guns to cross the border on purpose in a misguided sting operation call “Operation Gunrunner.” Some of these guns were used to target federal agents. Check out the CBS video below for the details.
Congressman (and GOP presidential candidate) Ron Paul excoriated his fellow congressmen for allowing President Obama to wage war in Libya without a declaration of war and no congressional approval, even after the duration of the military action in Libya went beyond the 60 days allowed by the War Powers Act. After 60 days the president is required to ask for congressional authorization to carry on or to extend for another 30 days. Now 73 days into the military intervention in Libya, the president has gone on vacation to Ireland, played golf on Memorial Day, and partied with the Queen. Apparently, he has not enough time to request the constitutionally mandated authorization to go to war. Dr. Paul puts the threat of presidential overreach in plain language.
Second amendment rights are protected no matter what level of government seeks to enforce “gun control measures.” Second amendment rights were upheld by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Brian Corrigan on May 25. The City of Cleveland has been attempting to infringe on the rights of citizens for years, but the court put the kibosh on the city’s attempts to regulate the transport, carry, and sale of firearms and ammunition.
