The Good:

Marco Rubio’s victory speech: ”We make a great mistake if we believe that tonight these results are somehow an embrace of the Republican party…What they are is a second chance, a second chance for Republicans to be what they said they were going to be not so long ago.”

Rand Paul: “Tonight, there’s a tea-party tidal wave.”

John Boehner to the Tea Party: “I’ll never let you down.”

Christine O’Donnell in her concession speech: “Our voices were heard and we’re not going to be quiet now. This is just the beginning.”

Jim DeMint: “I can almost feel the ground shaking here because there’s an earthquake election going on all over this country.”

The Bad

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) in defeating Fiorina: “We stood up to Karl Rove and we won. We stood up to Sarah Palin and we won.”

Jerry Brown’s acceptance speech as Governor of CA. Meg Whitman and the $140 million she spent still isn’t enough to defeat the union backed Moonbeam. He said: “We haven’t got all the votes in yet, but hell, it’s good enough for government work.”

Sen. John Kerry (D) on Reid victory: “Hell, all the pundits were wrong.”

The Ugly

Nancy Pelosi to election workers Tuesday: “We have taken the country in a new direction and we are not going back to the failed policies of the past.”

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV): “Today, Nevada chose hope over fear. Nevada chose to move forward, not backwards.”

The Most Important Person in America is, of course, a designation that might apply to a number of significant Americans. In this instance I am centered on the November 2 Election Day and its aftermath. I write to you with the bias of an independent conservative. I most certainly have a horse in the race and an ax to grind.

Looking at Election Day my greatest fear is that conservatives would fail to carry enough seats in the Senate to prevent president Obama from making another disastrous Supreme Court nomination, as in the case of justices Sotomayor and Kagan. Spineless moderate Republicans failed to do what was necessary to prevent these two anti-second amendment nominees from gaining confirmation. Look, Supreme Court nominations are lifetime appointments. America is stuck with two new liberal voices for what may well-be decades.

Believe me, as a believer in a strict interpretation of the constitution I have grave problems looking ahead should swing vote conservative, and most important person in America, Anthony Kennedy for any reason go off the court while Barack Obama is still around. It is clear to me that conservatives, led by the Tea Party movement are going to swamp progressives on Nov 2. In that all revenue bills must originate in the House, a pick up of 60 to70 house seats will put an end to Obama overreach. On the Senate side again with my eye on potential Supreme Court nominations I am far less comfortable. And I am for that matter not at all comfortable with the composition of republicans currently in the Senate, obviously targeting the Maine ladies and perhaps less obviously John McCain who is a far cry from a conservative voice.

A goodbye to justice Kennedy for any reason and the fat would be in the fire. I am deeply concerned that even if Senate Republicans do quite well on Tuesday, there will not be critical mass to prevent a third Obama Supreme Court nomination. The court is today split four justices to the right and four to the left with justice Kennedy a normally conservative swing vote. Two years (almost) of president Obama has already done irrefutable damage to our federal republic. It beats me how someone with zero practical experience in any area of endeavor relative to holding the most powerful office could have been elected.

I am certain that eight years of out of control spending and nation building by the neocon controlled Bush administration was a killer. And the choice of John McCain as Republican presidential candidate was a non-starter from the get go. Nonetheless the country has been stiffed with Mr. Obama. I hope that I am not being unfair to president Obama but take Dick Young’s sixty-second presidential qualification test and you tell me. Simply write down those specific qualifications in the president’s background that might qualify the man to be president. I cut a 3X5 card in half and still had too much space.

A historically significant house cleaning is at hand, one that will continue in 2012 as the Tea Party movement, fueled by the Americans for Prosperity Foundation, FreedomWorks, Cato Institute, The Institute for Justice, the Federalist Society and The Mercatus Center continue to get the message out to all Americans wishing to return to a true republican federal government as meant by Thomas Jefferson and intended by the constitution.

Mr. Jefferson wrote that “On every question of construction, let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed.”

As the final word, November 2 is the time to most directly focus on Jefferson’s words to James Madison where Jefferson believed that a state must resist federal enforcement of an unconstitutional and dangerous policy. Obamacare of course comes quickly to mind and Obamacare alone is reason enough to see to it that an awful lot of the House and Senate folk responsible for this travesty of constitutional overreach are turned out for good and replaced by representatives who actually believe in our American constitution as written on November 2nd.

1. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie makes the tough spending decisions and is standing up to unions. Meanwhile President Obama acts like a community organizer, telling union activists in a conference call Tuesday to “pick up a packet on Saturday morning to walk the precincts.” This according to an account provided by the AFL-CIO. He continued, “volunteer to drive people to the polls on Tuesday…Let’s do everything we can in these last seven days.” There’s no doubt he’s done everything he can to support unions like the AFL-CIO and SEIU. And he’ll continue to divide the country after Nov 2 as the champion for union leadership living large at the expense of taxpayers.

2. President Clinton, no stranger to controversy, will join Pennsylvania Democratic Senate candidate Joe Sestak today for three get-out-the vote rallies in Philadelphia. Joe Sestak could still be Obama’s Watergate but to Democrats it’s more like Arlen who?

3. A vote for the GOP is a vote against the Obama takeover of the country led by Pelosi and Reid. You tell me if the GOP is motivated. As Karl Rove writes:

Adding to Democratic problems, the record GOP turnout in this year’s primaries points to higher turnout next week. Four years ago, 82 million people voted in the midterms. This year I estimate 89 million to 91 million Americans may cast a ballot, based on voting-eligible population statistics calculated by George Mason University’s Michael McDonald. Could there be a late surge in Democratic enthusiasm? The latest Pew poll, from Oct. 21, reports that 64% of Republicans say they have given a lot of thought to the election, while only 49% of Democrats have. This intensity edge is staggering, larger even than the GOP’s 12-point lead in 1994.

4. The liberal elite feel they know how to run your life and feel it’s necessary to apologize to the world on your behalf because you’re an American. To the liberal elite Americans are the problem child of their “one world” family tree. Are you kidding me? As Shelby Steele writes:

Among today’s liberal elite, bad faith in America is a sophistication, a kind of hipness. More importantly, it is the perfect formula for political and governmental power. It rationalizes power in the name of intervening against evil—I will use the government to intervene against the evil tendencies of American life (economic inequality, structural racism and sexism, corporate greed, neglect of the environment and so on), so I need your vote.

“Hope and Change” positioned Mr. Obama as a conduit between an old America worn down by its evil inclinations and a new America redeemed of those inclinations. There was no vision of the future in “Hope and Change.” It is an expression of bad faith in America, but its great ingenuity was to turn that bad faith into political motivation, into votes.

5. As can be expected liberals cry foul when other groups are allowed to compete with their union fundraising machine. As Daniel Henninger writes:

Insofar as we now see in the current election that the biggest spenders roaring through the Citizens United floodgates are the public unions, the Obama-Pelosi tantrums seem overwrought, even phony. Freed to spend their own funds, AFSCME, the SEIU, and the National Education Association have spent $171.5 million, compared to political outlays of $140 million by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, American Crossroads and Crossroads GOP.

6. President Obama comes off more like a rock star rather than the President by appearing last night on the “Daily Show” with Jon Stewart. If that’s not enough he makes it sound like he’s not the one who spent the trillions of dollars that helped get us into this mess by saying: “I’m feeling great at where the American people are, considering what they’ve gone through. We’ve gone through two of the toughest years of any time since the Great Depression.” Well, Mr. President, the last two years didn’t have to be this tough. Your spending is why the car is still in the ditch.

Note: The Hill reports that in more bad news for Democrats rain is in the forecast for much of the country Tuesday. According to Laurel Harbridge, a Northwestern University political science professor, “Republicans are helped by bad weather . . . it does harm Democratic prospects.”
Hudak wants to restore American prosperity with reductions to government spending, to end the double taxation of the sinister Death Tax, and to reduce the job destroying taxes that plague the U.S. and Massachusetts.

Bill Hudak is campaigning to reform the health care system by reforming tort law, allowing the people of Massachusetts and America to purchase insurance across state lines, and cutting the waste and fraud from Medicare and Medicaid.

Hudak is also fighting to preserve American energy independence by developing domestic energy sources. Domestic natural gas would be a great place to start.

Finally, Hudak is a strong defender of the second amendment. This should be a requirement for any politician seeking office. Hudak’s opponent, John Tierney, received an F from the NRA, for his terrible record of defending your constitutional right to bear arms.

I urge you to support Bill Hudak for Congress.

Hudak’s supporters are running a money bomb starting today and ending Sunday night at 8:00pm. Click here to join them.

In upstate New York, a close race is brewing. In the 20th Congressional District, my home district, Republican Chris Gibson is taking on incumbent Democrat Scott Murphy.

Chris Gibson was raised in the district in Kinderhook, New York, and is a retired U.S. Army colonel, with seven deployments under his belt. Gibson served four tours in Iraq, as well as tours in Kosovo, in the Southwestern U.S. for drug interdiction, and in Haiti as part of the recent earthquake rescue efforts. During his service to the country, Gibson earned two Legions of Merit, four Bronze Star Medals, the Purple Heart, and numerous other commendations. He has taught at the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned a PhD from nearby Cornell University. Gibson completed a fellowship at Stanford University’s Hoover Institute and authored the book Securing the State on national security.

Murphy, for his part, was born in Missouri and was a political insider there, working as an aide to two governors, before moving to New York. He now represents the citizens of NY-20 as a so-called “Blue Dog” Democrat. The Blue Dogs are pledged to a mission of fiscal restraint. That doesn’t seem to jive with his vote for Obamacare, which the CBO has reduced to a bucket of empty promises when it comes to deficit reduction. Another place Murphy has failed constituents is in using Congressional mail budgets to campaign with taxpayer money. As you’ll see in the news report below from CBS 6 in Albany, he spent over twice as much as the average congressman on mailings.

As if rampant office spending and a vote for Obamacare weren’t enough, Murphy also voted for cap and trade. I suppose taxing American citizens on nearly every move they make might be considered fiscal conservatism by radical Democrats, but by a so-called “Blue Dog”?

In contrast, Chris Gibson has called for Congress to write a balanced budget and to pay down the debt built up by Barack Obama and the spendthrift Democratic Congress. Gibson has also called for substantial reforms to Obamacare, like allowing families to buy their insurance across state lines, a move that could possibly save New York families thousands of dollars on their insurance bills.

The people of NY-20 have an easy choice in front of them. Vote for a dedicated American who has literally put his life on the line for his country, or vote for a politician whose self-interest is his top priority.

The character assassination being spread by Democrats in this race has sunk to a new low. Scott Murphy, the so-called “Blue Dog,” has even stooped to criticizing Gibson for signing the Americans for Tax Reform pledge not to raise your taxes. Who would be unhappy with that? But I guess when you don’t actually plan on paying your business’s taxes in the first place, it doesn’t matter. That’s probably why Murphy, like other Democrats (John Kerry, Charlie Rangel, Tom Daschle) doesn’t seem to care about raising taxes like he did when he voted for Obamacare.

After a summer of Scott Murphy bombarding mailboxes with taxpayer-funded campaign advertising, Chris could probably use some backup from around the country. This race is sure to be as tight as can be. Murphy only won the special election that put him in office by a handful of votes decided in a courtroom battle .

I know NY-20 well. I grew up there and I know that the people are hardworking and that they don’t want government interference in their lives. This race is a battle, but Chris Gibson is a true warrior, and he can surely win. Gibson is connecting with citizens in the district. A local businessman (my dad) put it perfectly when he said, “Scott Murphy’s campaign signs are at every intersection, but Chris Gibson’s signs are in every front yard.” Gibson is easy for people from NY-20 to identify with. He’s one of us, and he represents the same values that we represent: small government, low taxes, and an end to political special-interest giveaways like the Obamacare and cap and trade bills that Scott Murphy voted for.

Please give your support to Chris Gibson. This is one race in New York that can definitely be won by a commonsense patriot who has risked everything to support his country. Americans need leaders and warriors like Chris Gibson to fight for them where it matters most, Capitol Hill.

Running for senator in New York is Gary Berntsen. If you’ve been reading the site for a while you’ve surely heard Gary’s name in pieces I’ve written about Afghanistan. Berntsen was the CIA’s best man in Afghanistan right after 9/11. He led the team to Tora Bora to capture Osama bin Laden, and would have done so had CENTCOM not messed up the operation. While in Afghanistan he also led the capture of Kabul.

Berntsen is running on a limited government platform against Mr. Big Government – Chuck Schumer. New Yorkers and America need someone in the Senate with the incredible knowledge possessed by Mr. Berntsen to execute a proper war on terrorism.

I enthusiastically support Mr. Berntsen’s campaign to be the next U.S. Senator from New York. – Dick Young
Union bosses lost big in Arkansas when the people of the state totally ignored their candidate in the Democratic primary. Even after a $10 million campaign to elect Bill Halter, and to punish Blanche Lincoln for voting against Card Check, Lincoln won the party’s nomination. This should be seen as a referendum on Card Check, and Card Check lost. – Timothy Jones

Jim Geraghty’s description of the sleazy state of politics in South Carolina is shocking. That makes Nikki Haley’s win in the GOP primary even more outstanding. Haley isn’t part of the South Carolina good ole’ boys network and her ascension to top of the ticket is near. She must power through a run-off election to win the nomination. – Dick Young
Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman won the GOP primaries for senate and governor in California last night. I’m sure that not many California voters took even five minutes to read about Ms. Fiorina’s record at Hewlett Packard or Lucent. If they had, there is no way she would have won. I expect a major pivot to the left from both Fiorina and Whitman to win the general election. – Dick Young

Tea Partiers couldn’t break the incumbents in New Jersey’s GOP primaries, but their campaigns surely brought up ideas that would have been pushed under the rug had they not run at all. It is possible the lasting impression of the Tea Party will be its pressure on the GOP to be honestly conservative, rather than simply paying lip service to conservative principles. – Timothy Jones

He should do Florida a favor and simply drop out of the race for senate. – Dick Young
In Nevada a three-way bout is taking place between Sharron Angle, Sue Lowden and Danny Tarkanian for the GOP nomination to senate. Tarkanian is definitely the choice for true conservatives, but whoever wins this race will have the support of the entire country’s conservative base in order to defeat Harry Reid. It is naïve of Fred Barnes to believe that President Obama desires GOP control of the House. The idea that Obama wants to pivot to center in order to win the 2012 election is laughable. There has been no more liberal president than Obama, save possibly FDR, and there is absolutely no desire in him to balance budgets, or even appear to be fiscally conservative.
